Saying fluoride can prevent dental cavities and that cavities are an infectious disease, the county commissioners acted as the county Board of Health in May, when they voted 2-1 to require Skagit County Public Utilities District to fluoridated its main water system. |

A nonbinding ballot question generated a favorable response from 52 percent of the voters within the utility district. The county commissioners have voted for fluoridation. The money to build the plant is available. |
