Septic Systems

Attend a free Septics 101 and 201 clinic to learn how to properly operate, maintain and manage you septic system. For a schedule of classes click here.

If you have an on site sewage (septic system) have it inspected every one to three years depending on type of system as required by Skagit County on site sewage code. For a list of Health Department inspectors click here. 

 

Agricultural operations - small and large livestock farms

The Skagit County Natural Resource Stewardship Program is designed to improve water quality in Skagit County streams by furthering community awareness and inspiring landowners to participate in protecting and enhancing water quality for the benefit of all the citizens of Skagit County. Storm water management

Stormwater runoff from streets, parking lots, construction, industrial properties, and residential areas is now recognized as one of the leading sources of pollution to our streams, lakes, wetlands, and Puget Sound. Petroleum products, heavy metals, pesticides, fertilizers, turbidity, and fecal coliform bacteria can all be present in stormwater runoff. The NPDES Permit is designed to help the County reduce the amount of stormwater pollution reaching our waters. For details click here:

 

Recreational portable toilets and pet waste facilities

Human and pet waste contributes to fecal coliform pollution in the Samish Basin. In an effort to reduce these pollution sources, the Clean Samish Initiative has installed portable toilets and pet waste stations throughout the watershed for birders, hunters, fishermen, and other recreational users.
